Parkinson’s WELLNESS
This is a community wellness program that addresses the daily needs of individuals living with Parkinson’s disease & provides year round access to PWR!Moves™: A Parkinson's–specific exercise program. This program is FREE to the community & Y members diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Classes are offered Monday, Wednesday, & Friday afternoons.
The mission of the Parkinson's Wellness Recovery (PWR!) program is:
- To improve the quality of life of Parkinson's disease patients & their caregivers
- To educate patients, caregivers & the general public about the benefits of maintaining an active lifestyle after a Parkinson's diagnosis
- To support research dedicated to the prevention & treatment of Parkinson's disease.
Program requirements (prior to participation) are:
- Be diagnosed with Idiopathic Parkinson's Disease
- Complete an informed consent form, initial assessment & medical clearance documentation
- Agree to quarterly progress assessments
- NOT have cardiac or pulmonary disease, uncontrolled mellitus, uncontrolled hypertension or stroke, dementia, other medical conditions for which exercise poses a risk
- Be ready to feel stronger & have fun doing it
