Our Y's Northern Energy Life Center is a complete fitness facility with cardiovascular fitness machines and comprehensive strength and weight lifting space. The Life Center has something for everyone! Our fitness center allows for time-efficient workout that fits your schedule and your needs. Fitness Associates are available to answer questions or provide assistance.
Fun class formats and motivating instructors will engage, challenge, and motivate you! A variety of cardiovascular, strength, and mind body classes – from beginner to advance – to keep you on track towards your fitness goals.

Yoga Levels Explained
Gentle Chair Yoga
This class is designed for students who may find it difficult to get on and off the floor as required for a traditional yoga class, using a chair to safely move the whole body through a complete series of seated and standing yoga poses. Chair support is used to safely perform a variety of postures designed to increase flexibility, balance and range of movement. Restorative breathing exercises and final relaxation will promote stress reduction and mental clarity.
Chair Yoga is a unique yoga style that adapts yoga positions and poses through creative use of a yoga chair. Participants are able to warm up the body safely and perform yoga poses with more support and stability. Poses are done seated on the chair or The chair is used for support during standing poses, forward and backward bends, side extensions, balancing, and leg and arm stretches. Chair Yoga is suitable for all ages, fitness levels and physical conditions.
Slow down and reap the rewards of a gentle approach to yoga. This class is an easy approach to a yoga practice that is slow and steady, and incorporates yoga props to support the body to help elongate the spine, open the hips, and customize the poses to suit each student's individual needs. The class is fitting for students who are new to yoga, students who have physical limitations or are recovering from injury, and students who want to have a less rigorous and more relaxing practice.
Yoga Level 1 – Foundational (formerly: Beginning Yoga, PM Yoga)
Build a solid foundation in the basic poses. Level 1 classes are appropriate for those who are newer to yoga as well as continuing students who are looking to refine their experience. Classes emphasize standing poses, basic sun salutations, gentle backbends and twists, basic standing balances, and options for inversions. Classes emphasize developing strength, flexibility, and ease in the body in order to quiet the mind.
Yoga Level 2 – Foundational + Flow (formerly: Vinyasa Yoga, Yoga on the Move)
Flow through your practice as you deepen your understanding of the poses. Level 2 classes continue to develop the foundational poses while accommodating a broader range of experience levels. Sequencing moves at a slightly faster pace, although pose modifications are always offered. Explore sun salutation variations, more vigorous backbends, twists, balance poses, and inversions. Prior yoga experience and familiarity with basic poses recommended.
Yoga Level 3 – Vigorous (formerly: Dynamic Yoga, Power Yoga++)
Deepen your practice and challenge yourself physically and mentally. For more advanced practitioners, Level 3 classes work from a base of vigorous sun salutations to explore more challenging variations of poses, which may include arm balances, deeper twist variations, standing balance poses, inversions, and backbends. Not for beginners - prior yoga experience strongly recommended.
*NEW* Family Yoga
Family Yoga invites parents and children ages 8 and up to practice yoga together. The class consists of poses and lots of smiles. Parents and children will practice side by side; they may do some partner poses and maybe even play some yoga "games."
Family Fitness classes resume January 14!
Tuesdays: 5:30-6:15pm: Studio 1: Family Zumba® or Family Drums (classes will alternate each week)
If you are looking for something fun and healthy to do with your family, this is it! Family Zumba® will incorporate fun Zumba music and moves the whole family can enjoy, and maybe even a game or two. Family Drums combines pulsating rhythms, dynamic movements, and powerful percussions to make this a high-energy program for you and your kids. It's the drums that get to you!
Thursdays 5:30-6:15pm: M&B Studio: Family Yoga
Family Yoga invites parents and children to practice yoga together. The class consists of poses and lots of smiles. Parents and children will practice side by side; they may do some partner poses and maybe even play some yoga "games."
Note: Family Fitness classes are replacing our Kids' Fitness classes. Family Fitness classes are open to kids ages 8 and older, accompanied by an adult. No registration required.
These classes will run through December 19, then break for the Holidays. Classes will resume January 14.
